## Synopsis

Sea Monsters (2003) is a British factual nature documentary miniseries created by Tim Haines for BBC One. Presenter and zoologist Nigel Marven travels back through deep time to observe the deadly creatures that ruled prehistoric oceans, from the Paleozoic through the Mesozoic and into the Cenozoic. Across three half-hour episodes, he moves between dramatized recreations of ancient seas and documentary-style explanation, following the predators, their hunting methods, and the dangerous marine world they dominated. A narrator voiced by Karen Hayley frames each segment with clear, measured commentary, giving the program a wonder-driven, educational register. The emphasis falls on spectacle and awe rather than suspense, so the tone feels curious, awestruck, and accessible. Fans of Walking with Dinosaurs, Planet Earth and Prehistoric Park will find the same blend of natural history and reconstructed prehistory. It works well as a family watch and as an introduction to the creatures of the ancient seas, set in a deep time that stretches across hundreds of millions of years.
