## Synopsis

Blue Gender (1999-2000) is a Japanese animated science fiction series produced by Anime International Company and broadcast on TBS, a single-season run of 26 episodes of 24 minutes each. Its protagonists are Yuji Kaido (voiced by Kenji Nojima) and Marlene Angel (voiced by Houko Kuwashima), who must work together to reach Second Earth, a vast spaceship orbiting a ruined planet. Supporting voices include Seno Miyagi (Katsunosuke Hori) and Robert Bradley (Yukitoshi Hori). The engine of the story is survival: humanity has been overrun by the Blue, mutated insect-like creatures that hunt people and harvest them for food, and the characters must cross a hostile wasteland while fighting back with mecha. Episodes are built around ambushes, escapes and grim discoveries, and the pacing pushes steadily toward the goal of reaching the orbiting refuge. The tone is bleak and visceral, with body horror and gore alongside a sense of dread about what remains of the human race. Set in the 2030s on a devastated Earth, the series sits within the tradition of Japanese post-apocalyptic mecha anime. Fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Attack on Titan and Parasyte will find resonance in its mix of monstrous enemies, human desperation and militarized survival.
