## Synopsis

Sherlock (2010-2017) is a British crime mystery series created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat for BBC One. A modern update of the famous detective stories, it follows the brilliant, socially abrasive consulting detective Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his former army doctor flatmate John Watson (Martin Freeman) as they take on murder cases for Scotland Yard. Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves) brings the cases, while Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey) and Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss) orbit the investigations. Across four seasons of three feature-length episodes each, the engine is the puzzle itself: Sherlock reads strangers from small physical clues, and the stories build toward a rival mastermind played by Andrew Scott. The tone is witty and propulsive, with a sharp, cinematic energy and an undercurrent of loyalty and emotional strain between the two leads. Set in contemporary London, the show uses smartphones, forensic labs, and crowded streets to ground its deductions. Fans of Elementary, Monk, and Luther will find resonance in its clever whodunit structure, its charismatic detective, and its prestige British crime-drama polish.
