## Synopsis

Anne Shirley (2025) is a Japanese animated period drama series for NHK Educational TV, an anime adaptation of L.M. Montgomery's novel. Honoka Inoue voices Anne Shirley, a talkative and imaginative orphan who arrives at a farm on Prince Edward Island after the siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert had asked for a boy. Aya Nakamura voices the stern but tender Marilla, while Naoya Miyase voices the schoolyard rival Gilbert Blythe and Yume Miyamoto voices Diana Barry, Anne's devoted friend. Across a single 24-episode season, the engine is Anne's effort to find her place in a village wary of outsiders, told through episodes built around school rivalries, church gatherings and small domestic misadventures. Set in a late nineteenth century rural Canadian town, it unfolds with a gentle, nostalgic warmth and a hopeful, cozy register. Fans of Anne of Green Gables (1985), Heidi, Girl of the Alps and Anne with an E will find resonance in its slice of life coming of age charm.
