## Synopsis

Pee-wee as Himself (2025) is a two-part American documentary miniseries produced for HBO, a limited series built from two feature-length episodes of roughly 102 minutes each. Its subject is the imaginative performer Paul Reubens, who appears as himself, reflecting on the life and career behind the childlike character he made famous. Cassandra Peterson, David Arquette, Natasha Lyonne, Debi Mazar and Tim Burton appear as themselves, offering recollections that circle the work and the public persona. The engine of the film is the tension between a carefully constructed comic identity and the private man behind it, traced through the creative choices, collaborations and career setbacks that shaped the performer over decades. Rather than a conventional talking-head chronicle, the portrait is kaleidoscopic, moving between archival moments, reflective interviews and the imaginative style that made the character so distinctive. The mood is intimate and reflective, mixing playful nostalgia with a more serious look at identity, fame and artistic reinvention. Fans of Andy Warhol: A Documentary Film and Beware the Slenderman will find resonance in its portrait of an eccentric creative figure, while viewers drawn to celebrity life stories will find a deliberate, self-aware record of a cultural icon.
