## Synopsis

Train Man (2005) is a Japanese romantic comedy series made for Fuji TV, a single season of eleven fifty-minute episodes. Adapted from a true story that first spread across a Japanese internet message board, it follows Tsuyoshi Yamada, a socially anxious otaku who saves a stranger from a drunken harasser on a commuter train and then tries to win her over. The woman, whom he nicknames Hermes, becomes the focus of his fumbling courtship. Friends and family react to each awkward date, text message, and attempt at small talk, while strangers on an online board debate every step in real time, turning his nervous efforts into a communal project. Set in contemporary Tokyo, the show mixes cringe-inducing discomfort with warm, sincere moments and a hopeful, tender register. Fans of Kimi ni Todoke and The Big Bang Theory will recognize its blend of geeky sincerity and romantic awkwardness, while its internet-age framing gives it a distinctive flavor.
