## Synopsis

When It Rains, It Pours (2025) is a Japanese television drama series broadcast on MBS, adapted from a novel. Asahi Ito plays Sei Nakarai and Jun Muto plays Kazuaki Hagiwara, two coworkers trapped in unsatisfying relationships who find unexpected closeness after a misdirected email opens a private line of communication. Their secret messages grow into an emotional affair that pulls them away from partners Sae Kiriyu (Yurika Nakamura) and Shoko Hagiwara (Maki Mizuno), and the consequences of that closeness build as the secret edges toward exposure. The series is a single season of seventeen episodes in a contemporary Japanese office setting, with the story driven by loneliness, longing, and the question of what love actually requires. Its tone is melancholic and intimate, with moments of wry humor and raw emotional honesty as the characters examine their choices. Shorter episodes keep the focus on private conversations, quiet tensions, and the slow pull between two people who feel unseen. Fans of Japanese adult romance dramas and emotionally observant relationship stories will find resonance here.
