## Synopsis

Murder Before Evensong (2025) is a British-set mystery series created by David Moore and distributed by Acorn TV, a limited series of six 45-minute episodes. Matthew Lewis plays Canon Daniel Clement, the rector of the small parish of Champton, whose plan to modernize his church splits his congregation just as a body turns up on church grounds. Amanda Redman plays his wife Audrey, and Amit Shah plays DS Neil Vanloo, the detective who moves in as the bodies pile up. Tamzin Outhwaite and Adam James round out a cast of villagers whose secrets and grievances surface one by one. Each episode tightens the net around a killer hidden among the parishioners, while Daniel tries to hold his fractured community together. Set in 1980s rural England, the show trades gore for gentle village rituals, church politics and a slow build of suspicion. Its tone is wry, cozy and melancholic, with a genteel whodunit's pleasures. Fans of Grantchester, Midsomer Murders and Father Brown will find the same blend of clerical charm and English village mystery here, served as a single contained puzzle.
