## Synopsis

To Cook a Bear (2025) is a Swedish crime drama miniseries created by Jesper Harrie for Disney+. Gustaf Skarsgård plays the new pastor, who arrives with his family in Kengis, a remote northern Swedish village in 1852 riddled with disorder. Pernilla August plays Madam Sjödahl, and Magnus Krepper plays Brahe, both figures whose interests tangle with the priest as he tries to restore order to his parish. Jaakko Ohtonen plays Roope, adding pressure from the community's rougher edges. The engine of the series is a moral man confronting a village where authority, faith and criminal dealings are hard to separate, and each episode peels back another layer of local secrets. Across six hour-long episodes the story unfolds as a single continuing arc, giving it the shape of a tightly built limited series. Its atmosphere is cold, austere and watchful, with the isolation of a northern parish heightening every quarrel. Set in nineteenth century rural Sweden, it has the grit and moral weight of period crime fiction, with fans of The Killing, Hold the Dark and Wolf Hall likely to find resonance in its mix of dread, faith and rough justice.
