## Synopsis

Pasila is a Finnish comedy series set in a police station in the Helsinki suburb of Pasila, where a small ensemble of officers handles the dull, absurd and often humiliating side of civic work. Its humour is dry and observational, drawn from paperwork, petty rivalries, bureaucratic inertia and the distance between the authority the officers project and their everyday ineptitude. Episodes move at a brisk pace and rarely rely on dramatic set pieces, preferring awkward silences, deflated ambitions and small reversals. The tone stays wry and melancholic at its edges, but the show keeps a warm undercurrent toward its flawed characters, who are more tired than cynical. Its run across the 2007 to 2013 period forms a loose continuing portrait of working life rather than a case-of-the-week procedural. Viewers who enjoy Brooklyn Nine-Nine's workplace affection, The Thick of It's bureaucratic bite, or the deadpan awkwardness of mockumentary comedy will find much to recognise in its blend of satire, understatement and humane observation of institutional life.
