## Synopsis

The Flintstones (1960-1966) is an American animated sitcom created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for ABC, and one of the first prime-time animated series. Set in a prehistoric town called Bedrock, it follows Fred Flintstone (Alan Reed), a bumbling but big-hearted working man, and his best friend and next-door neighbor Barney Rubble (Mel Blanc), with their wives Wilma (Jean Vander Pyl) and Betty (Bea Benaderet) keeping the households in order. Fred's engine is constant schemes: get-rich plans, lodge meetings, bowling nights and a boss who keeps him in check, all played out in gags that depend on stone-age versions of modern gadgets like foot-powered cars and dinosaur appliances. Across six seasons and 166 episodes the series stays a lighthearted, slapstick-driven family comedy, episodic and easy to dip into, with warm friendships and cheerful domestic bickering as its emotional register. Its tradition is the classic American family sitcom transplanted into cartoon form, and fans of The Jetsons, Family Guy and Bluey will find a similar blend of animated domestic comedy and playful everyday chaos.
