## Synopsis

Phantom 2040 (1994-1996) is a French-American animated science fiction series created by Lee Falk and produced for Multishow and Locomotion TV. Loosely drawn from the comic strip hero The Phantom, it centers on the 24th Phantom, a costumed hero who carries an inherited legacy into a futuristic world. The engine of the show is the Phantom's pursuit of justice against forces that threaten individual freedom, with each twenty-five-minute episode built around a self-contained action sequence layered over character development and clever plotting. Across two seasons and thirty-five episodes, the series keeps its focus on the tension between a lone hero and the institutions that would control people. Featured voices include Scott Valentine, Margot Kidder, Ron Perlman, and Jeff Bennett, with Mark Hamill and Debbie Harry in recurring roles. The unusual angular character designs by Peter Chung, the creator of Aeon Flux, give the show a distinctive look. Its tone is earnest and adventurous, with moments of reflection on freedom and humanity. Fans of Batman: The Animated Series, Aeon Flux and Gargoyles will find resonance in its stylized futurism and youthful heroism. The show was cut short after its run and remains a cult favorite.
