## Synopsis

The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries (1993-1994) is a British period detective series created by Dame Ngaio Marsh for BBC One. Patrick Malahide plays Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn, a sharp and unhurried Scotland Yard detective, alongside William Simons as Inspector Fox and Belinda Lang as Agatha Troy, with Tom Wilkinson appearing in a principal guest role. Adapted from Marsh's novels, the two-season run is built around feature-length stories of roughly one hundred minutes each. The engine of each episode is a puzzle: a crime is committed among a circle of suspects in a closed setting, and Alleyn must sift alibis, motives and small inconsistencies until the truth surfaces. Set in spring 1948 England, the series moves through polished country houses, weekend parties and tense drawing rooms where manners hide resentment. Its tone is measured, witty and atmospheric, with a wistful postwar elegance. Fans of Agatha Christie's Poirot, Miss Marple and Inspector Morse will find resonance in its genteel whodunit rhythms and British golden age charm.
