## Synopsis

Russian Dolls: Sex Trade (2005-2008) is a Belgian crime drama series created by Mark Punt and Guy Goossens for VTM. Across two seasons of ten episodes each, the story follows young women from Lithuania and Russia who are lured and taken to Belgium by a criminal gang that runs them as sex slaves. The engine of the series is the tension between the captives' desperate attempts to survive and the gang's tightening control over their lives, as the criminal organization expands its reach through clubs, handlers, and back rooms. Its cast includes Axel Daeseleire as Jan Verplancke, Manou Kersting as Danny Bols, Indrė Jaraitė as Inesa, and Luk Wyns as Eddy Stoefs, with each episode unfolding in grimy Belgian cities. The tone is bleak, tense, and harrowing, with a sober, procedural realism that refuses easy consolation. Fans of The Wire and Taken will find resonance in its grounded depiction of criminal networks and the human cost of exploitation. The show is a serious, emotionally heavy watch that treats its subject with unflinching seriousness throughout.
