## Synopsis

From Rock Star to Killer (2025) is a French true crime docuseries produced for Netflix and presented across three roughly 41-minute episodes. It revisits the 2003 killing of actress Marie Trintignant by rock singer Bertrand Cantat, a case that split the French public and turned a private tragedy into a national argument. Rather than dramatizing events, the series assembles interviews with people connected to the case, including musicians and figures from the surrounding circles, whose recollections and competing readings of the trial and its aftermath form the spine of each episode. The engine is the question of how a celebrity's violence was explained, excused or condemned, and how the debate split along lines of art, fame and feminism. Its tone is sober, probing and uncomfortable, with an emphasis on testimony and the weight of unresolved public grief. Viewers who follow true crime docuseries in the vein of The Jinx and Making a Murderer, or investigative pieces like Athlete A, will find its methodical, talking-heads approach familiar yet focused on a single French case with national resonance. Presented as a limited series, it is a compact, serious watch rather than a sensational one.
