## Synopsis

Yakarta (2025) is a Spanish comedy-drama miniseries created by Diego San José for Movistar Plus. Javier Cámara plays Joserra, a former Olympic badminton player who now teaches physical education at a public high school in Vallecas, a divorced man who keeps himself afloat through a daily sense of purpose. Carla Quílez plays Mar, a gifted teenage player he sees as the diamond who could revive his dream of competing in Jakarta, the city where former players are treated as stars. The engine of the six-episode run is a reluctant road trip: the pair must tolerate each other while crossing northern and central Spain through Totana, Ponferrada, Torrelavega and Tardajos, staying in dingy guesthouses, run-down sports centers and roadside gas stations. Each stop tests their patience and their pride, and the question of whether they will ever reach the Indonesian capital hangs over every leg. Built as a single self-contained story rather than a serial with cliffhangers, the series carries a bitter, deadpan register tinged with melancholy and the comedy of provincial squalor. Fans of Ted Lasso, The Trip and Little Miss Sunshine will find a kindred mix of wry humor and wounded longing in this sour, affectionate road story.
