## Synopsis

Sonic Underground (1999) is a French-American animated action adventure series created by Robby London, Jean Cheville and Jean Chalopin, broadcast in syndication and on TF1. Sonic, Sonia and Manic are the hedgehog triplets of Queen Aleena, separated as infants and hidden away so that a prophecy can be fulfilled: they must find their estranged mother, overthrow the robotic tyrant Doctor Robotnik, and reclaim Mobius. Voiced by Jaleel White, the siblings are pursued relentlessly by Robotnik (Garry Chalk) and his bumbling bounty hunters Sleet (Maurice LaMarche) and Dingo (Peter Wilds). The engine of each episode is a chase: the heroes evade capture, rally rebels and stumble into schemes built from Robotnik's robotic menaces. Forty episodes make up a single season, so the story runs as a continuing quest rather than standalone cases. Its signature feature is musical interludes in which the siblings perform as a band, giving the action a bright, cheerful, kid-friendly energy. Based on the Sega video game franchise, it is a light, colorful cartoon with a hopeful, adventurous tone, in the vein of Jem and Captain N: The Game Master for fans of 1990s cartoons about teen heroes and video game worlds. The series is a single season that ends with the central quest still unfinished.
