## Synopsis

The New Addams Family (1998-1999) is a Canadian and American family sitcom co-produced for YTV and Fox Family. Gomez Addams (Glenn Taranto) and Morticia Addams (Ellie Harvie) lead a gothic household alongside their daughter Wednesday (Nicole Fugere), son Pugsley (Brody Smith), Granmama (Betty Phillips), Uncle Fester (Michael Roberds), the towering butler Lurch (John DeSantis) and the disembodied hand Thing (Steven Fox). The engine of the show is simple: the family goes about its happily macabre daily life in a creaking mansion, and each episode plays out as a self-contained case of the week in which their ghoulish habits collide with neighbors and outsiders who find them baffling. The show spans two seasons and sixty-five episodes, with a broadly episodic format that suits younger viewers. Its tone is cheerful, deadpan and warmly comic, with spooky gothic décor and a Halloween flavor that never turns genuinely frightening. Fans of The Munsters, Bewitched and Sabrina the Teenage Witch will find a similar pleasure in supernatural households that refuse to apologize for being different.
