## Synopsis

The Price Is Right (1972-present) is an American daytime game show created by Bill Todman, Bob Stewart and Mark Goodson for CBS. Hosted for decades by Bob Barker and later Drew Carey, it is a studio-based competition in which audience members and contestants step up to guess the retail prices of everyday and occasionally unusual goods. Each episode is a run of pricing games, showcase rounds and bidding contests, with the engine being a contestant's wish to win a car, boat or vacation by landing closest to the right number without going over. The show is a single hour-long format rather than a scripted story, so every episode stands on its own while the tradition itself carries across more than thirty seasons. Its tone is bright, buoyant and communal, with a live crowd cheering every near miss and a studio announcer calling out winners. Fans of Jeopardy!, Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune will find the same kind of gentle, prize-driven fun, a reliable and easygoing companion for a family living room or an afternoon off.
