## Synopsis

Depth of Field (2025) is a Japanese miniseries created by Enjo for FOD, adapted from a manga. Across six thirty-minute episodes it follows two high school boys who meet on a rooftop as an escape from the world: Shuichiro Hayakawa (Takuma Usa), a reserved boy with a guarded manner, and Ryouhei Konno (Kohshu Hirano), a sincere classmate who is curiously drawn to him. Their tentative friendship deepens into something more, but a confession met with silence sends them apart, and the story turns on the aching distance that follows. The show's engine is the slow accumulation of small moments, a shared photography interest, quiet afternoons and the weight of unspoken feelings, rather than plot twists. Later episodes jump forward years, letting the two finally face the conversation they never had. Supporting players include Tsubasa Sakiyama as Ume and Keijiro Yagami as Yamashita Shun. Set in a seaside Japanese town, the series is a gentle, melancholic romance with a wistful, tender register and a focus on longing and reconciliation. Fans of Given, Heartstopper and Sweet Blue Flowers will find resonance in its restrained, emotionally sincere portrait of queer youth.
