## Synopsis

Hot Wind (1980) is a Yugoslav television comedy miniseries created by Aleksandar Đorđević for Radiotelevizija Beograd, a ten-episode run of roughly 55-minute installments. Ljubiša Samardžić plays Borivoje Šurdilović, known as Šurda, a restless man in his thirties who leaves his small town for Belgrade hoping to get rich quickly. Miodrag Petrović as Blagoje Popović, nicknamed Firga, and Borivoje Todorović as Slobodan Bob Mihajlović are among the principal figures around him, while family members such as Šurda's mother and grandmother anchor his home life. The engine of the show is a string of get-rich-quick plans that never fit his ambitions: no job seems good enough, so he tries his luck abroad in Germany, only to find the same disappointments waiting there. Each episode is built from scrapes, small schemes, and awkward encounters that keep his pride intact while his finances unravel. The series moves at a brisk, affectionate pace through the texture of late socialist Yugoslavia, with the everyday comedy of a country caught between provincial roots and western temptations. Its mood is wry, warm, and self-deprecating, and its theme song became a cult favorite across neighboring countries. Fans of Only Fools and Horses and Sanford and Son will find a kindred sense of comic failure and hustling charm.
