## Synopsis

Tales of Little Women (1987) is a Japanese animated family drama series created for Fuji TV, produced by Nippon Animation as part of its World Masterpiece Theater lineage and adapted from the classic novel Little Women. Set during the American Civil War, it follows the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, along with their mother, as they are left homeless and penniless after Confederate soldiers burn their town and their father's investment is lost. Their journey carries them toward the household of a great aunt in Newcord, and the engine of each episode is the sisters adjusting to hardship, making new friends, and facing everyday obstacles while longing for the war to end. Voiced by a cast that includes Rei Sakuma as Amy March and Keiko Han as Margaret March, the 48-episode run is a single continuous story told at a gentle, deliberate pace. The tone is warm, tender and hopeful, with wartime danger kept in the background and domestic closeness foregrounded. Fans of Anne of Green Gables, Heidi, Girl of the Alps and other classic literary anime will find the same wholesome, heartfelt resonance here.
