## Synopsis

Dusk Beyond the End of the World (2025) is a Japanese animated science fiction series created for MBS and its broadcast partners, a single-season limited series of twelve 24-minute episodes produced by P.A.WORKS. Akira Himegami (voiced by Shuichiro Umeda) is caught in civil unrest sparked by tensions over artificial intelligence when he protects his girlfriend from an assassin. Centuries later he wakes from cryogenic sleep into an unfamiliar, post-apocalyptic world, where his only steady companion is the android Yuugure (voiced by Yui Ishikawa). The engine of the series is Akira's struggle to understand a world that has moved on without him while his bond with Yuugure grows through shared loneliness and fragile trust. Each episode lingers on the quiet textures of this altered future, with its ruins, unfamiliar customs and uncertain allies, and the emotional stakes rise steadily toward a conclusion. The tone is wistful and melancholic, with moments of tenderness and a sense of loss running beneath the sci-fi premise. Fans of Planetes, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Time of Eve will find resonance in its blend of anime craft, android themes and reflective pacing.
