## Synopsis

Macross Plus (1994-1995) is a Japanese animated original video animation military science fiction series created as an OVA for Bandai Visual and its production partners. Set in the year 2040, the four-episode story follows test pilots Isamu Alva Dyson (voiced by Takumi Yamazaki) and Guld Goa Bowman (voiced by Unsho Ishizuka), former childhood friends whose rivalry for air superiority over the Supernova Project flares again when their old companion Myung Fang Long (voiced by Rica Fukami) returns. The engine of the story is a clash of pride, loyalty and jealousy, playing out between dogfights in the sky and the debut concert of Sharon Apple, a virtual idol whose synthetic personality grows dangerously unstable after an illegal AI technique is installed. Each episode builds toward a larger confrontation, and the series moves at a brisk, emotionally charged pace. Set in a colonized galaxy with advanced technology, it has a glossy, melancholic tone, with the mecha battles and pop spectacle carrying a sense of longing and loss. Fans of the original Macross, Ghost in the Shell and Top Gun will find resonance in its blend of military sci-fi action, artificial intelligence anxiety and romantic rivalry.
