## Synopsis

Human (2025) is a British science documentary miniseries broadcast on BBC Two, presented by paleoanthropologist Ella Al-Shamahi, who appears on screen as guide through the long story of our species. Across five episodes of roughly an hour each, the series follows humanity's development over about 300,000 years, moving from early ancestors through the evolutionary turns that shaped modern people. Rather than a dry lecture, the program is built around Al-Shamahi visiting sites and handling the physical evidence of fossils and tools, so each episode is made of field visits, expert explanations and reconstructions of how people lived. The engine is curiosity: each stage of the story raises a new question about how we became who we are, and the series keeps returning to the idea that the real account is stranger and more surprising than popular imagination expects. The tone is warm, wondering and accessible, with a sense of awe at deep time rather than alarm. It is a one-season limited series, produced with BBC Studios Science Unit and NOVA, and fans of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, The Ascent of Man and Planet Earth II will find the same blend of expert presence, cinematic wonder and clear explanation that makes science history feel immediate.
