## Synopsis

Eden of the East (2009) is a Japanese animated conspiracy thriller series created for Fuji TV and produced by Production I.G. Saki Morimi, a young woman caught in trouble with the police in Washington D.C., is rescued by Akira Takizawa, a man who remembers nothing of his past and carries only a gun and a cell phone loaded with 8.2 billion yen in digital money. Voiced by Ryohei Kimura and Saori Hayami, the two pair up as Akira tries to recover his identity while the mysterious forces that gave him the money close in. The engine of the story is the hunt for answers: each episode peels back another layer of surveillance, cybercrime and a hidden social experiment, with Akira and Saki forced to decide whom to trust. Across eleven episodes this single-season serialized series builds a tense, cerebral atmosphere of cold digital paranoia and political intrigue, moving between Tokyo and the American capital. Its mood is melancholic and tense, with a sense of isolation and a question about who controls ordinary lives. Fans of Serial Experiments Lain, Psycho-Pass and Death Note will find resonance in its blend of anime style, mystery and moral unease.
