## Synopsis

The Vortex (2025) is a Colombian scripted limited series adapted from the literary classic La vorágine, produced for Colombian regional and public broadcasters including Telecafé, Teleantioquia and Telecaribe. Wealthy young woman Alicia (Viviana Serna) and idealist poet Arturo Cova (Juan Pablo Urrego) are rebellious lovers who break away from the rules of their century and flee into a jungle that promises freedom. Their engine is the pull of that promise against the reality waiting for them, as the wilderness reveals a crueler law than the one they abandoned. Supporting roles include Nelson Camayo as Clemente Silva and Nicole Santamaría as Oriselda, whose presence shapes the stakes of the journey. Told across a single season of eight episodes, the series unfolds as one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Set in the early twentieth century Colombian frontier, it captures the rubber boom era's harsh economy of extraction and survival. Its tone is poetic and melancholic, with a romantic intensity that grows more feverish as the jungle closes in. Fans of Doctor Zhivago, Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Apocalypse Now will find resonance in its blend of doomed romance, wilderness peril and colonial-era disillusionment.
