## Synopsis

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom is a 2009 Japanese anime action thriller created by BeeTrain. Zwei, a Japanese tourist, accidentally witnesses an assassination in an American city and is captured by Inferno, a shadowy company that controls much of the criminal underworld through its near-invincible human weapon, the Phantom. Renamed and stripped of his memories, he becomes an obedient killing machine, and the series follows his struggle to survive each mission while clinging to fragments of his past and hoping to escape. Voiced by Miyu Irino, Zwei moves through a steady run of hits, betrayals and violent confrontations rather than case-of-the-week episodes. The single 26-episode season is stylized and sleek, set in a mafia-flavored urban landscape. Its tone is tense, bleak and morally ambiguous, with a constant sense of danger and dread shaping every encounter. Viewers drawn to shadowy organizations, stylized gunplay and questions of identity will find much to admire, even as the story leaves its central mysteries open for the long haul.
