## Synopsis

Stand Up!! (2003) is a Japanese television drama series created by Yukihiko Tsutsumi for TBS, a single-season run of eleven weekly episodes that aired across three months. Kazunari Ninomiya plays Asai Shouhei and Tomohisa Yamashita plays Iwasaki Kengo, two of the last four virgins left in their high school class as they try to lose their virginity during their final summer vacation. Supporting principal roles are held by Anne Suzuki as Oowada Chie, Hiroki Narimiya as Udagawa Hayato and Shun Oguri as Enami Kouji. The engine of the show is a ticking summer deadline: each episode is built from the awkward schemes, rivalries and confessions of a close friend group as they chase romance and dread being left behind. Set in a contemporary Japanese high school town, the series moves between comedy and sincere adolescent vulnerability, with a warm, nostalgic and sometimes wistful register. Its focus on friendship and the anxieties of growing up gives it the feel of a youthful romantic comedy. Fans of Kimi ni Todoke and Hana Yori Dango will find resonance in its teen romance and friendship at the center of the story.
