## Synopsis

The Daily Show (1996-present) is an American national-television political satire series created by Madeleine Smithberg and Lizz Winstead for Comedy Central. Presented as a fake news broadcast, it puts a sardonic host at a news desk to tackle the day's headlines, politicians, media spin and pop culture stories. Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah have anchored the show, with Stewart's long run defining its irreverent voice, and guests from politics, journalism and entertainment are interviewed across its nightly half-hour episodes. Its engine is rapid-fire monologue and correspondent field pieces that deflate official rhetoric and the news cycle itself, so each episode builds a comic argument out of real events. The show runs as a continuous nightly series across more than thirty seasons, with an episode count in the thousands, and it is a fixture of late-night cable comedy. Its tone is sharp, cynical and playful, with a sincere undercurrent about public accountability. Fans of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Colbert Report and Saturday Night Live will find the same mix of topical wit and political bite.
