## Synopsis

Sherlock Holmes (1964-1968) is a British television adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's detective stories produced by BBC One across two seasons and 29 episodes. Peter Cushing and Douglas Wilmer each play the title sleuth, with Nigel Stock as his loyal companion Dr. Watson, and the two investigate a steady run of crimes in Victorian London. Each episode is a self-contained case built on a puzzle, a suspicious circumstance and a chain of observations that leads the detective to the culprit. The engine of the series is Holmes's reasoning, carried out in lamplit rooms, foggy streets and drawing rooms where the duo interview witnesses and track down clues. The tone is measured, literate and restrained, with a comforting period atmosphere rather than gore or sensation. Fans of the Granada Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett, Poirot and Murdoch Mysteries will find resonance in its polished case-of-the-week format, Victorian setting and classic deductive pleasure. Its episodes run about fifty minutes, and the series remains a faithful, unhurried entry for viewers who love classic detective fiction.
