## Synopsis

Stargate Atlantis (2004-2009) is a Canadian-American science fiction adventure series created by Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright, produced for Syfy as a spin-off of Stargate SG-1. Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) and the brilliant but abrasive Rodney McKay (David Hewlett) lead a scientific expedition through the Stargate into the Pegasus Galaxy, where they reawaken the Ancients' lost city of Atlantis. Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) commands the expedition, while the local warrior Teyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell) becomes an essential ally. The engine of the series is survival: the team must keep the city powered and defended, find Ancient technology that can help them, and hold off the Wraith, a predatory alien race that hunts humans for food. Each season runs twenty episodes as one continuing story, with standalone missions woven into a larger war, over five seasons. Set in a far-future Earth expedition to another galaxy, it has an upbeat, adventurous tone, with wry banter and a sense of wonder about the ancient city. Fans of Stargate SG-1, Lost and Star Trek: The Next Generation will find a similar blend of exploration, camaraderie and alien danger.
