## Synopsis

The Office (2005-2013) is an American mockumentary sitcom created by Greg Daniels for NBC, adapted from the British series. The show follows the everyday lives of employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Steve Carell plays Michael Scott, a well-meaning but oblivious regional manager whose desperate need to be liked fuels nearly every episode, while Rainn Wilson plays Dwight Schrute, his eager and rule-obsessed salesman, and John Krasinski plays Jim Halpert, the deadpan colleague who trades glances with receptionist Pam Beesly, played by Jenna Fischer. The engine of the series is small workplace friction: meetings that go wrong, rivalries over sales quotas, and romance that stalls for seasons. Each episode is a self-contained slice of office life, filmed with a documentary crew and punctuated by direct-to-camera confessionals. Running nine seasons, it is a long, warm and often cringe-inducing comedy with a tone of gentle absurdity and affection. Fans of Parks and Recreation and the British original will find the same mix of awkward humor and quiet heart.
