## Synopsis

Girlfriends (2000-2008) is a US network sitcom created by Mara Brock Akil for UPN and later The CW. Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross) anchors a close circle of women in Los Angeles that also includes Maya Wilkes (Golden Brooks), Lynn Searcy (Persia White) and Toni Childs-Garrett (Jill Marie Jones). Their stories follow the everyday engine of modern adult life: first dates, careers, marriages that strain, divorces that reshape finances and homes, and the family obligations that pull at each of them. Each episode builds a comic situation out of a romantic misstep or a personal setback, then lets the friends rally around the one in trouble, with pointed banter and sharp-edged confidences around the kitchen table and in bars. Darnell Wilkes (Khalil Kain) and William Dent (Reggie Hayes) add romantic tension to the group's world. Running across eight seasons and about 170 episodes, the show is a continuing comedy-drama in the multi-camera tradition, with a warm, sincere register and a strong sense of community. Fans of Sex and the City, Living Single and Insecure will find resonance in its blend of humor, loyalty and candid talk about love and independence.
