## Synopsis

The Red Green Show (1991-2006) is a Canadian television comedy created by Steve Smith and Rick Green for CBC Television, a sitcom and sketch comedy hybrid. Steve Smith stars as Red Green, a folksy host who hands out outdoorsy repair advice, and Patrick McKenna plays his put upon sidekick Harold Green. Rick Green appears as Bill Smith, with Albert Schultz, Bob Bainborough, George Buza and Graham Greene rounding out a rotating cast of regulars. Each episode runs about 21 minutes and is built from a central household or outdoors problem, a shaky do-it-yourself fix, and a string of sketches, with duct tape as the running answer to nearly everything. Across fifteen seasons and 304 episodes, the show plays as a parody of earnest home improvement, fishing and outdoors programs, and its mock sincerity makes the bumbling host lovable rather than cruel. Its tone is lighthearted, irreverent and warm, closer to a Canadian cousin of SCTV or Corner Gas than to a plotted drama. Viewers looking for a gentle family comedy, a sketch show with a recurring cast, or a wry parody of diy television will find much to enjoy. The series is set in a contemporary rural Canadian milieu and holds a steady place in CBC comedy history.
