## Synopsis

Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years (1995-1996) is a Canadian western drama series that continues the story of the earlier miniseries, airing on CTV and in syndication. Following a single season of twenty-two hour-long episodes, it picks up two years after its predecessor, when bounty hunter Newt Call (Scott Bairstow) returns to town after years of womanizing and drinking to numb his grief. He finds his brother-in-law Austin Peale (Paul Johansson), now an alcoholic sheriff, still blaming him for his sister's death, and the town under the iron rule of Col. Francis Clay Mosby (Eric McCormack), who cannot forget the woman he saw in Hannah. Newcomers Amanda Carpenter (Tracy Scoggins), who runs the Lonesome Dove hotel, and gunsmith Mattie Shaw (Kelly Rowan) add mystery and rivalry to the mix. The engine is a tangle of old wounds and power struggles playing out in a dusty frontier settlement, with each episode weaving personal loyalty against ambition. Its mood is melancholic and rough-edged, with a grief-soaked intensity that suits fans of Deadwood and Hell on Wheels, and viewers who came for the sweeping character drama of Lonesome Dove will find a familiar emotional register here. Set in the 19th century American frontier, it is a western built on memory, guilt and the uneasy peace of a town that never quite healed.
