## Synopsis

Taggart (1983-2011) is a British national-television Scottish police procedural series created by Glenn Chandler for ITV1. Detective Chief Inspector Jim Taggart (Mark McManus) leads a Glasgow murder team drawn from the Maryhill CID of Strathclyde Police, with Detective Chief Inspector Mike Jardine (James MacPherson) and Detective Sergeant Jackie Reid (Blythe Duff) among the principal officers working alongside him. Each feature-length episode runs about ninety minutes and follows a single killing from the first body to the arrest, with the team pushing through interviews, forensic leads and bureaucratic obstacles. Across twenty-seven seasons and one hundred and fourteen episodes, the series moved its base to the fictional John Street station opposite the City Chambers while keeping the same blunt, working-class Glasgow grit. The tone is gritty, dour and procedural, with a streak of dark humour in the banter between officers and an atmosphere of rain-soaked city streets. Fans of Inspector Morse, Cracker and Line of Duty will find resonance in its long-form investigations, morally weary detectives and steady, character-led crime storytelling set in modern Scotland.
