## What critics say

Viewers broadly regard Coach as a warm, reliable sitcom whose best seasons rest on Craig T. Nelson's comic timing and the bickering friendship with Jerry Van Dyke's Luther.

## Synopsis

Coach follows Hayden Fox, the veteran head coach of a fictional Minnesota college football team, and his long-suffering relationship with Luther Van Dyke, the team's aging assistant and perpetual foil. Across its run, the show balances brisk, gag-driven workplace comedy with warm, affectionate bickering between a gruff, proud man and a sweet, sharp-tongued colleague who never quite stops believing in him. Its tone is good-natured and comforting, with a familiar sitcom rhythm of rivalries, romantic misfires, and loyal friendships pushing against the pressures of college sports. Craig T. Nelson's exasperated comic timing anchors the ensemble, while Jerry Van Dyke's eccentric, lovable Luther provides the emotional heart. Episodes are largely self-contained and easy to dip into, making it a relaxed, feel-good watch for viewers who enjoy classic family-friendly humor, sharp one-liners, and the reassuring pleasure of characters who remain stubbornly, endearingly themselves over the years.
