## Synopsis

Gladiators (1992-2000) is a British television entertainment game show produced by London Weekend Television for ITV, adapted from the American format American Gladiators and later spawning versions in Australia and Sweden. Presented by John Fashanu and Ulrika Jonsson, with later presenter changes including Jeremy Guscott, the show pits ordinary contestants against a roster of costumed athletic champions in a series of physical challenges staged before a roaring studio crowd. Each episode is built from a run of head-to-head events that test strength, speed, agility and nerve, with the contestants chasing prize money while the champions defend their reputations. Commentary from John Sachs and the officiating of referee John Anderson give the proceedings a sporting-broadcast polish, while the G-Force cheerleaders add bright, high-energy flourish. The series runs across eight seasons, with the bulk of its episodes forming a steady stream of weekly competitions rather than any continuing narrative. Its register is breezy, cheerful and competitive, a saturday night spectacle of fitness, rivalry and showmanship. Fans of American Gladiators, Takeshi's Castle and Total Wipeout will find the same blend of arena theatre and athletic showdown.
