## Synopsis

The IT Crowd (2006-2010) is a British Channel 4 workplace sitcom created by Graham Linehan. It follows Roy Trenneman (Chris O'Dowd) and Maurice Moss (Richard Ayoade), two socially awkward technicians stuck in the basement of a large corporation, and their scheming supervisor Jen Barber (Katherine Parkinson), who has bluffed her way into managing a department she knows nothing about. The engine of each episode is simple: a routine computer fault or a small corporate blunder spirals into a chain of escalating misunderstandings, with Jen angling for status and the nerds unable to hide their contempt for the rest of the building. The show runs four series of six episodes each, twenty-four in total, built as self-contained half-hour stories that share a continuing cast and a running set of office rivalries. Denholm Reynholm (Chris Morris) and his son Douglas (Matt Berry) head the firm with hotheaded, ridiculous confidence, giving the workplace its recurring foils. The tone is brisk, deadpan and cringe-inflected, with quick literal banter and a warm undercurrent of loyalty among the misfits. Set in present-day London, it sits in the tradition of British office comedy, with fans of The Office and Black Books likely to find a kindred sense of awkward humour.
