## Synopsis

Ga-Rei-Zero (2008) is a Japanese animated supernatural action series aired on AT-X, a short single-season anime of twelve 24-minute episodes. Set in contemporary Japan, it follows agents of the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division, a covert government bureau that dispatches creatures unseen by the public without causing alarm. Its central engine is the bureau's crisis of trust: when one of its own turns traitor, the agents, including Kagura Tsuchimiya and Yomi Isayama, must hunt monsters while navigating suspicion inside their own ranks. Each episode is built around a supernatural incident handled with swords and blunt, efficient action, while a larger conspiracy simmers beneath the surface. The tone is dark, tense and atmospheric, with a melancholic undercurrent of loyalty tested under pressure. Fans of Darker than Black and Hellsing Ultimate will find the same blend of covert supernatural institutions, stylized combat and grim, morally tangled stakes. Being a prequel to a larger franchise, it also suits viewers seeking a compact, self-contained dark anime.
