## Synopsis

Punky Brewster (1984-1988) is an American family sitcom created by David W. Duclon for NBC and later syndication. Soleil Moon Frye plays Punky Brewster, an abandoned waif who arrives with her dog, and George Gaynes plays Henry Warnimont, the cranky apartment manager who becomes her unlikely guardian. Supporting principals include T.K. Carter as Mike Fulton, Cherie Johnson as Cherie Johnson and Susie Garrett as Betty Johnson, whose presence fills the building with neighbors and friends. The engine of the show is the slow forming of a family out of strangers: a child searching for a permanent home, an older man learning to open his heart, and a shared apartment building where everyone is always stepping in for someone else. Each episode is a self-contained, twenty-three minute comedy of small domestic dilemmas, school troubles and neighborly mishaps. Spanning four seasons and ninety-one episodes, it is a light, cozy, sincere sitcom with a nostalgic 1980s American television flavor. Its warmth and gentle humor set it apart from edgier comedies, and fans of Diff'rent Strokes, Who's the Boss? and Full House will find similar resonance in its wholesome family dynamics and lighthearted tone.
