## Synopsis

The Boondocks (2005-2014) is a United States adult animated satire series created by Aaron McGruder for Adult Swim. When Robert Freeman (voiced by John Witherspoon) becomes guardian to his two grandsons, he trades the tough south side of Chicago for Woodcrest, a wealthy white suburb nicknamed The Boondocks. The engine of the show is the collision between the family's streetwise worldview and the polished complacency of their new neighbors. Ten-year-old Huey Freeman (Regina King), a sharp-tongued leftist revolutionary, and his eight-year-old misfit brother Riley (also Regina King) use every encounter to dismantle hypocrisy, while Uncle Ruckus (Gary Anthony Williams) provides a self-loathing foil. Neighbors Tom Dubois (Cedric Yarbrough) and Sarah Dubois (Jill Talley) embody the liberal suburban performance that the family keeps puncturing. Each episode is a self-contained sketch-like story built from a stand-alone satirical premise rather than a single continuing plot. Across four seasons and fifty-five episodes the show's tone is cynical, deadpan and confrontational, with absurd violence and frank language sitting beside pointed social commentary. Fans of South Park, Futurama and Black-ish will find resonance in its bold, cutting, irreverent approach to race and class in American life.
