## Synopsis

Deadliest Catch (2005-present) is a United States Discovery reality docuseries created by Thom Beers. Following the crab fishing boats working the Bering Sea off Alaska, the show follows captains and deckhands such as Phil Harris and Bill Wichrowski, along with crew members Sean Dwyer, Jerry Corky Tilley, Murray Gamrath and Derrick Ray, as they haul enormous steel crab pots in forty-foot waves and freezing temperatures. The engine of each episode is the race to fill a quota before the season closes and get back to port, with mechanical breakdowns, storms, and exhaustion constantly threatening the crews. Across twenty-two seasons and several hundred episodes, the show is observational and unscripted, shot largely on the boats themselves with a handheld feel that makes the work immediate. Its tone is tense and sober, with moments of camaraderie and grief woven through the hard labor. Fans of Ice Road Truckers and Ax Men will find resonance in its blend of real occupational danger and serialized seasonal storytelling. The show is set in the present day.
