## Synopsis

The O.C. (2003-2007) is an American network teen drama created by Josh Schwartz for FOX. Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), a teenager from a rough Chino background, is taken in by the Cohen family, the affluent lawyer Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher) and his wife Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), and moves into a glossy Newport Beach, California community. His outsider status pits him against the privileged world around him, and his sharp, witty friendship with the Cohens' bookish son Seth (Adam Brody) anchors much of the show's warmth. Romantic entanglements with Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson) and the troubled Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) fuel the emotional engine, while family rivalries, money schemes and social pressure shape each season. Episodes move between beach parties, school life and courtroom-adjacent family dramas, with a steady stream of romance and heartbreak. The four-season run is one continuing serialized story with season-long arcs. Its tone is earnest, glossy and melodramatic, with an unmistakable early-2000s soundtrack and pop-culture sensibility. Fans of Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and Dawson's Creek will find the same blend of teen romance, class tension and sun-washed Southern California nostalgia.
