## Synopsis

The World of David the Gnome (1985-1986) is a Spanish animated fantasy series created by Claudio Biern Boyd for La 1, adapted from the children's book The Secret Book of Gnomes by Dutch author Wil Huygen and illustrator Rien Poortvliet. The series follows David, a young gnome whose hidden community lives unseen beside ordinary people in the natural world, and his friends including Lisa, the narrator's voice guiding each story, and the gnome companions Swift, Pot and Hooley. Voiced by José María Cordero as David, Matilde Conesa as Lisa and Teófilo Martínez as the narrator, the series unfolds across a single season of twenty-six episodes, each a self-contained, half-hour fable built around small everyday problems that a tiny creature must solve with ingenuity and care. Its engine is curiosity and friendship, as David and his companions explore the rules and wonders of their secret world and keep it hidden from the larger human one. The tone is gentle, earnest and warm, with a storybook quality rooted in its literary origins and an emphasis on nature, kindness and cooperation. Fans of The Secret of NIMH, Thumbelina and Ulysses 31 will find resonance in its blend of animated fantasy and wholesome family storytelling, making it a comforting pick for young viewers and the adults watching alongside them.
