## Synopsis

Dresden (2006) is a German two-part war drama miniseries created for ZDF, a national broadcaster with a prestige historical tradition. Set in January 1945 in the German city of Dresden during the final months of the Second World War, the story follows young nurse Anna Mauth (Felicitas Woll), who is engaged to senior physician Benjamin Wenninger (Benjamin Sadler). When an English Lancaster bomber is shot down, its lone survivor, pilot Robert Newman (John Light), stumbles into the city badly injured and hides in the hospital cellar. Anna discovers him believing he is a German deserter, and she must decide whether to protect a man from the enemy side while the city around her is under threat. The drama unfolds across two ninety-minute episodes, moving between the hospital corridors, the cellar hideout and the wider home front, where family ties, romance and fear of discovery press in from every side. Its tone is somber and emotionally charged, with a tense undercurrent of dread and quiet moments of tenderness. Fans of Generation War and Band of Brothers will find resonance in its human scale and its portrait of ordinary people caught in the machinery of war.
