## Synopsis

Le coeur a ses raisons (2005-2007) is a Quebec French-language soap opera parody created by Marc Brunet for TVA. Set in the fictional city of Saint Andrews, the series follows Brett Montgomery, a wealthy cosmetics businessman and doctor, as he battles his evil twin brother Brad for control of the Montgomery family fortune. Marc Labreche plays both brothers, along with several other doubled and disguised roles, while Anne Dorval plays the twin sisters Criquette and Ashley Rockwell. Brett's fiancee Cricket is a television journalist, and her sister Ashley works as a nurse at the local hospital, giving the intrigue a workplace and media angle. Principal cast also includes Sophie Faucher as Crystale Bouvier-Montgomery and Macha Grenon as Megan Barrington-Montgomery. The engine of the show is constant scheming, mistaken identities and convoluted family rivalry, with each short episode built on escalating plot twists played deadpan and overwrought. Across three seasons and thirty-nine episodes of about twenty-two minutes each, it keeps a single ongoing story. Its tone is campy, knowing and breezy, with a wink at the excesses of the soap opera form. Fans of Dallas, Soap and Ugly Betty will find resonance in its melodrama and twin-driven comic chaos.
