## Synopsis

Archangel (2005) is a British two-part miniseries created for BBC One, a political thriller built on the bones of alternate history. Daniel Craig stars as Prof. Fluke Kelso, a dissipated, middle-aged former Oxford historian who travels to Moscow for a conference on the newly opened Soviet archives. In the hotel he is confronted by an unexpected visitor, and the premise draws him into a dangerous hunt through the secrets of the Stalinist state. Zinaida Rapava (Yekaterina Rednikova) is a principal figure in the unraveling mystery, while Gabriel Macht plays R. J. O'Brian and Konstantin Lavronenko plays Josef, both tied to the wider web of concealed truths. Avtandil Makharadze appears as Josef Stalin, keeping the dictator's shadow over every scene. The story unfolds across two feature-length episodes of tense investigation, with the protagonist forced to confront family secrets and the buried crimes of a regime still living in its archives. The tone is wary and atmospheric, with a rain-dimmed Moscow rendered in cold, paranoid detail. Fans of The Man in the High Castle and Child 44 will find resonance in its counterfactual unease and Soviet-era dread.
