## Synopsis

Bab Al-Hara (2006-2023) is a Syrian national-television period drama created for MBC 1 and running thirteen seasons across 402 episodes. Set in 1920s Damascus, the series follows the residents of Harat al-Salihiyah, a quarter whose families fled after French bombardment of their former neighborhood. Abu Issam (Abbas Al-Nouri) and Abu Ibrahim (Esam Abjy) anchor a tight community where the cloth merchant's household is robbed of its gold and the guard Abu al-Samu is killed. Each season builds on the search for the thief, as the neighborhood men pursue suspects through alleys, courtyards and coffee houses while balancing pride, loyalty and old customs. Its ensemble includes Sabah Jazairi, Milad Yousef, Wael Sharaf and Samer Al Masri, whose characters carry the weight of traditional Damascene life. The episodes are self-contained social dramas with a serialized investigative thread, shaped by noble values, rivalry and reconciliation. Warm, nostalgic and communal in tone, the series mixes humor with melancholy and a sense of vanished urban life. Viewers who enjoy long running ensemble soaps and family honor dramas will find resonance in the vein of Downton Abbey and EastEnders, with a distinctly Levantine heart.
